Yes, Halina, the Jyotisha 3rd House is beneficial for longevity, as long as it and its lord are not afflicted by at least two or more malefics, without the aspect of a benefic.

But other considerations for longevity should be given more weight than the state of one's 3rd House.

For example, Graham had Ketu in the 3rd, and natural malefic Saturn was aspecting the 3rd, but his 3rd also had the aspect of natural benefic Mercury.

But the other considerations for longevity mentioned above are far more essential...

Good points, Dean. He even referred to himself as a warrior in one of the articles I read.

I wonder if his daily habits (no smoking or alcohol) were a significant longevity factor. Looking at his MC-ruling natal Saturn in his 6th, and trine his physically-referencing natal Moon-Mars (IC and ASC rulers, respectively), perhaps his conservative lifestyle generally supported his physical endurance.
