Are new astrologers obsessive these days?

Glaucus,

--- Quote ---Uranus has been in Aquarius,   and there hasn't been much progress in the astrological community.    In his lecture about the Future of Astrology,  Steven Forrest said that he thinks that the astrological community has even lost ground instead of gain ground.   He pointed out how the astrological community is fragmented and that there is a Tower of Babel. He pointed out that the notion of a "One True Astrology" is a myth and can be blown out out of the water.  He talks about the need to tolerate and accept diversity in Astrology. There has been much discord among the astrological community long before Eris was discovered and led to discord among the astronomical community.

--- End quote ---

The problem with diversity within the astrological community, and its apparent losing of ground, results from a simple insight - Astrology has no solid foundation in reason. As Richard Dawkins loves to point out, " (paraphrasing) we have no reason to expect that Astrology could have anything to say about reality".

The "One True Astrology", or at least a solid philosophical foundation, is not a myth but an absolute necessity. Playing around with the astronomical kaleidoscope, producing ever more pretty patterns won't get the job done! Quite the opposite. It requires the appliance of intellect - something in short supply in the astrological world. Astrology needs to be taken out of the hands of astrologers and put back into the mainstream of Human intellectual activity - for all our sakes. Toward that end, I have been working for many years.

....and dysfunctional is not a kind of diversity.

When new planets and other heavenly objects are named, they come into consciousness. The new depths and variances of human consciousness that they represent are more fragments of astrology to be identified and integrated into a practical and objectively workable unified field theory, not unlike the world of science which is one with our astrological world, but the connection to which has not been discovered.

Neptune in Aquarius has had too much religious ideology interfering with the objective perception of life, so its passage to Pisces will put it in its proper place. Then we get the new astrology.

At its best, Neptune 'in its proper place' can stimulate the need to make sense of this world. Unfortunately, not everyone responds to Neptune's promptings in an ideal way. The 'need to know', driven by Neptune, can end in escapism in any of its forms - including the comforts afforded by religious certainties.

On the other hand, it can also result in scientific and philosophical insight. Understanding the 'Logic of Life' we can say: The rational process is preceded by the desire to rationalise, and succeeded by that desire's reward - the satisfaction of having successfully applied skill in the conceptual realm.

My obsession is to open the eyes of science, religion and Astrology to the 'common ground' that is the 'Logic of Life': it supports, and drives, all of us.

Hudson Valley Astrologer:
Yes! Ray, there are a great many talented and obsessive astrologers on the loose and more join the ranks daily.

Astrologers with the academic credentials and mental prowess of past and living giants may be in short supply, but those qualities may not be required in order to have a meaningful discussion with a client. At least from my perspective the New Astrology has much less to do with which objects to use or not use, and which measurements to include or discard, but has everything to do with how the symbols are brought to life by the clients themselves participating in a consultation.

I've learned more from clients personal descriptions of transits to natal positions than 100 books could possibly describe. So much focus has been on which system, and which planets, and which aspects or orbs etc. When all along the TRUTH has been right under our noses in the minds and hearts of the masses who as clients become the students best and most profound teachers. Maybe this is what the future holds for astrology. Could it be that the essays on this website, Noel's books and bibliographies, and the many posts reminding us to include the reality of the environment as an important and indispensable leg of knowledge represent that elusive future NOW? Maybe its not so mysterious but simple. Not so scientific but practical. And not so religious as it is Divine.

I'll be better equipped to answer this question after say some 20,000 consultations. Until then, I will try and amp up my knowledge by paying attention to my clients. And try to obsess and busy myself with learning about LIFE and simply observe how Astrology reflects the light of experience.

"Playing around with the astronomical kaleidoscope, producing ever more pretty patterns won't get the job done! Quite the opposite."

It's not about that at all.

It is about looking at the sky in other dimensions and not as 2 dimensional piece of paper. The sky is not 2 dimensional.

heck...the paran system even includes the horizon coordinates that are relative of the location of the observer on Earth.

Astronomers only use Right Ascension and Declination to locate objects in the sky.  They are more recognized as legititimate than astrologers are.

Insight can be gleaned from Right Ascension.  Aspects that appear out of orb can be in orb in Right Ascension.

A person that use a system that produces "pretty patterns" can apply their intellect to interpret them and gain insight from them.

There are highly intelligent astrologers that use them too like Jonathan Dunn. He has a good grasp on Astronomy. He even devised an ephemeral page that uses Right Ascension

Right ascension (abbrev. RA; symbol ?  is the astronomical term for one of the two coordinates of a point on the celestial sphere when using the equatorial coordinate system. The other coordinate is the declination.

Explanation

Right ascension is the celestial equivalent of terrestrial longitude. Both right ascension and longitude measure an angle that increases toward the east as measured from a zero point on an equator. For longitude, the zero point is the Prime Meridian on the geographic equator; for right ascension, the zero point is known as the first point of Aries, which is the place in the sky where the Sun crosses the celestial equator at the March equinox.

Any units of angular measure can be used for right ascension, but it is customarily measured in hours, minutes, and seconds, with 24 hours being equivalent to a full circle. The reason for this choice is that the earth rotates at an approximately constant rate (see sidereal time). Since a complete circle has 360 degrees, an hour of right ascension is equal to 1?24 of this, or 15 degrees of arc, a single minute of right ascension equal to 15 minutes of arc, and a second of right ascension equal to 15 seconds of arc. Sidereal hour angle, used in celestial navigation, is similar to right ascension, but increases westward rather than eastward. It is important not to confuse sidereal hour angle with the astronomical concept of hour angle, which is how far west an object is from one's local meridian.

Right ascension can be used to determine a star's location and to determine how long it will take for a star to reach a certain point in the sky. For example, if a star with RA = 01:30:00 is at a location's meridian, then a star with RA = 20:00:00 will be in the meridian 18.5 sidereal hours later.

The tilt of the Earth's axis gradually rotates over time. This effect, known as precession, causes the measured right ascension and declination of even a perfectly stationary celestial object to change noticeably over the span of decades. Therefore, equatorial coordinates are inherently relative to the year of their observation. Astronomers always specify equatorial coordinates with reference to a particular epoch. An astronomer comparing coordinates from different epochs must mathematically rotate one of the coordinate systems to match the other, or rotate both to match a common epoch.

The currently used standard epoch is J2000.0, which is January 1, 2000 at 12:00 TT. The prefix "J" indicates that it is a Julian epoch. Prior to J2000.0, astronomers used the successive Besselian Epochs B1875.0, B1900.0, and B1950.0.
[edit] History

The concept of right ascension has been known at least as far back as Hipparchus who measured stars in equatorial coordinates in the 2nd century BCE. But Hipparchus and his successors made their star catalogs in ecliptic coordinates, and the use of RA was limited to special cases.

With the invention of the telescope, it became possible for astronomers to observe celestial objects in greater detail, provided that the telescope could be kept pointed at the object for a period of time. The easiest way to do that is to use an equatorial mount, which allows the telescope to be aligned with one of its two pivots parallel to the Earth's axis. A motorized clock drive often is used with an equatorial mount to cancel out the Earth's rotation. As the equatorial mount became widely adopted for observation, the equatorial coordinate system, which includes right ascension, was adopted at the same time for simplicity. Equatorial mounts could then be accurately pointed at objects with known right ascension and declination by the use of setting circles. The first star catalog to use right ascension and declination was John Flamsteed's Historia Coelestis Britannica (1712, 1725).

In regular chart, only ecliptic longitude is shown. That's what the zodiac coordinates are.

The chart has to be calculated in a different way to show Right Ascension

You can get your Right Ascension placements here, and they are given in zodiac equivalent longitude equivalent
for example my Moon in 334'24 shows as 4'24 Pisces.
Make sure that you check the box,RA which stands for Right Ascension http://www.true-node.com/pos/

in regards to regular aspects that are out of 5 degree in the regular chart and show up as aspects in my Right Ascension chart:

Mars square Neptune
orb in regular chart
5'54 orb in regular chart
1'01 orb in Right Ascension

Mars square Saturn
9'13 orb in regular chart
4'35 orb in Right Ascension

Moon square Jupiter
5'06 orb in regular chart
2'12 orb in Right Ascension

Sun trine Mars
9'26 orb in regular chart
4'01 orb in Right Ascension

Mercury square Lunar Nodes
7'51 orb in regular chart
2'36 orb in Right Ascension

in regards to sextile - 3 degrees

Mercury sextile Ascendant
4'53 orb in regular chart
0'47 orb in Right Ascension

according to Clairvision:

Right ascension charts – what they mean

How does the meaning of a right ascension chart differ from a normal chart?

To answer this question, some say that the celestial equator is a more 'earthy' reference than the ecliptic. This makes sense, for the celestial equator is the projection of the earth's equator on the celestial sphere, while the ecliptic is the path of the Sun.

Consequently, they regard the right ascension chart as an indication of how a person manifests the potentialities of their 'normal' (longitude-based) chart into their life. From this perspective, the 'normal' chart shows potentialities; the right ascension chart shows how these potentialities are likely to manifest in real life. Hence the motto: right ascension chart – manifestation chart.

For instance, if an aspect or a cluster of planets is really critical in a person's chart, you may want to look at their right ascension chart to see if the aspect is also present, and if it is any different.

In astrological readings, it is not rare to see people who are not like their chart! For instance, one sees charts with beautiful potentialities which are not translated into the reality of the person's life. The right ascension chart may give clues as to why and how, and also clues as to how to manifest what is in the chart.

From these indications, you may also deduct that the right ascension charts of solar returns may be quite interesting, since when doing predictions you are precisely trying to determine how influences will manifest in real life.
