Time Machine

For those who don't know - or just want to recall - how the Forum looked like in the early days, the following link will send them back in time. How chaotically creative was it? What kind of crazy stuff was being discussed in the Spring of 2000?

Don't bother about clicking the old topics to read the messages ... For your safety, the time machine has disabled that option. Otherwise, you would disintegrate! ;D

Thanks Antonio for the retro flashbacks, lol.  When exactly did Noel start the Forum?!

That's a very tricky question, James! For the date/time of the New Forum, we rely on the data provided by Donnalyn.

The only thing that is sure is the creation date of the domain name: 1998-06-04T04:00:00Z
The "Z" stands for UTC time so, if we relocate the data for Phoenix (Fountain Hills) AZ, the result is: 1998-06-03 21:00.00 MST

As for the oficial start/launch of the website and its initial forum:

This is from "The WOW!Archive", published by astrologer  Richard Nolle:

"JUL 19, 1999 - Noel Tyl, Astrologer is - you guessed it - Noel Tyl's brand-new website, a delight to find in cyberspace. If you've been around astrology anytime at all for, say, the last 25+ years, you know Noel's work: prolific, profound, intelligent stuff. Acquainted or not, you'll thank your lucky stars for his website. Check out the book list for starters, then dig into some of the online features (updated biweekly): Analytical Techniques, Counseling Insights and Noel's own Notebook. That should cut your teeth. After which, you'll find lots more - including details on consultations, astrological training and a discussion forum. Good stuff, lots of it, an excellent online resource worth revisiting often." http://www.astropro.com/wow-151.html

Yet, we can see that all the first Tyl Essays all show the date of July 15, 1999. We can't trust that alone...

The earliest date that i found in the website was for the link related to the Book List: https://www.noeltyl.com/booklist.html

Using the "Carbon Dating The Web": http://cd.cs.odu.edu/
We get the "Estimated-creation-date": "1999-06-12T18:09:22

Other pages from the website were published a few days later... but there's no way to know when the original forum was created and became available online. Maybe Noel and/or Susanna Dorr know it for sure...

Meanwhile, you can play around with a square chart calculated for the domain registration in 1998. Not the same as a Vedic chart and not exactly a Traditional chart (it shows the outer Planets), but it is the best i can offer to get your head round it!  ;D

I remember finding the forum in the mid to latter part of 2000, and was sporadically lurking for a decade or so after that. Practically a newbie.  Lucky find though, because the astrology banter in Yahoo Chat was just rubbish.

An old discussion regarding the New Forum  and its starting place and time.
http://noeltyl.com/discussion/index.php?topic=2980.msg12788#msg12788

I can make it even more tricky! Should we consider the physical location of the new Forum "creator"1 (Dana), its "owner"1 (Noel), the website host, the forum host, the servers location, etc?

Almost the same questions apply (and more) in the case of the website domain name registration. He have the exact date and UTC time (and that's great), but should we use the place of the Registrar* server, headquarter or the web host location (LunarPages - Anaheim)? Not far from each other but, also, the Registrant (Noel) city is Phoenix, but the Admin city (Noel) is Fountain Hills. In this case, i tend to favor the owner location at the time of registration (Fountain Hills AZ or Phoenix AZ?!).

1 "Simple Machines Forum software, or SMF software, is an open source, Internet forum, message-board program developed by Simple Machines. The name reflects the communities' initial goal of providing a program that could be operated by novice programmers and require minimal server resources. [...] SMF provides its users with the ability to customize their forums. You can change how it looks and even how it operates."

* Network Solutions: through an agreement with the US Government, acquired exclusivity in the granting of High-Level International Domain Names, such as .com, .org, .net, among others.

Until 1999, Network Solutions was the only private company to provide such services in the US, when ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) decided to open this privilege to another 11 companies.

Thank you Antonio...Noel would have then first come online with the Forum sometime back in June/July of 1999, when he was running Rahu-Sun-Rahu in his Vimshottari Dasha...Rahu signifies foreigners, the Sun rules his 3rd House of written communication, and both Sun and Rahu are conjunct in his 7th House of others and of career, as the 7th is the 10th from the 10th...Not surprising at all with this prarabdha karma unfoldment...

Vimsottari Dasa:

 Rah MD: 1984-09-06 (8:57:33 am) - 2002-09-06 (5:35:07 pm)
  Sun AD: 1999-03-26 (3:31:55 pm) - 2000-02-18 (8:45:48 am)

   Pratyantardasas in this AD:

   Moon: 1999-04-12 (1:59:37 am) - 1999-05-09 (11:25:46 am)
   Mars: 1999-05-09 (11:25:46 am) - 1999-05-28 (3:38:05 pm)
   Rah: 1999-05-28 (3:38:05 pm) - 1999-07-16 (11:01:10 pm)

James, i think the July 16, 1999 you listed is spot on .. or very close! I don't think Noel wrote all the first Essays on July 15. That same date is listed in the blue link for each one of them: Analytical Techniques, Counseling Insights and Notebook. This suggests that he made them available for the public in that same date or just about the following day.

Additional confirmation is provided through the review of the site made by Richard Nolle, published just a few days later, on July 19, 1999. On his site, R. Nolle himself says that his reviews are made on a weekly basis or close to that. So, the previous "carbon" dates (June) that i found, possibly refer to tests that Noel and/or site administrator were doing, before making it all available to the public.

ps: There's no "missing Moon" for July 15-16, 1999. Maybe he took advantage of the several favorable aspects of the tr. Moon to his natal chart on those two dates. Among them (many), trMoon conj. nMoon on July 15 and TP Moon=nNode on July 16. Also, TP Moon=rAsc/MC on his relocated chart for Fountain Hills, AZ.

On second(?) thought, i don't know if he had any control over the exact date and time for the public launch of the website and initial forum, in order to elect the best moment. Maybe all that counts is when he first paid for the web hosting services and domain name registration, back in 1998. The whole kit and caboodle expires in June 2019, if the tenant doesn't pay the rent! Then, any punk can grab the domain name and claim to be the king of astrologers!  ;D :o
