Multiple Sclerosis
« on: August 06, 2010, 10:09:00 AM »
"Multiple sclerosis (abbreviated MS, also known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata) is a disease in which the fatty myelin sheaths around the axons of the brain and spinal cord are damaged, leading to demyelination and scarring as well as a broad spectrum of signs and symptoms.[1] Disease onset usually occurs in young adults, and it is more common in females.[1] It has a prevalence that ranges between 2 and 150 per 100,000.[2] MS was first described in 1868 by Jean-Martin Charcot.[3]

MS affects the ability of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to communicate with each other. Nerve cells communicate by sending electrical signals called action potentials down long fibers called axons, which are wrapped in an insulating substance called myelin. In MS, the body's own immune system attacks and damages the myelin. When myelin is lost, the axons can no longer effectively conduct signals.[4] The name multiple sclerosis refers to scars (scleroses—better known as plaques or lesions) in the white matter of the brain and spinal cord, which is mainly composed of myelin.[3] Although much is known about the mechanisms involved in the disease process, the cause remains unknown. Theories include genetics or infections. Different environmental risk factors have also been found.[4][5]"...from Wikipedia...

Astrologer Sydney Omarr (see birth info from the link below) was diagnosed with MS in 1971, the year that he turned 45.  In Vedic astrology, or Jyotish, Mercury represents both nerve disorders and brain diseases.  Mars represents scars and attacks.  And the 1st House represents the head.  Thus, it would be rational to assume that these significators would be in a weakened condition in his Jyotish natal chart.  And indeed they are...

His 1st House is ruled by Mercury, and Mercury is closely conjoined with the malefic Sun, with the Sun ruling his 12th House.  Natural malefic Mars, ruler of his 8th House, aspects Sun-Mercury from the 8th House, and natural malefic Saturn (6) also aspects Sun-Mercury from his 2nd House.  Thus, Saturn aspects Mars, and Mars aspects Saturn.  Additionally, malefic Ketu (South Node) aspects Mars, and malefic Rahu (North Node) aspects Saturn.

In 1971, transiting Ketu was conjuncting natal Sun-Mercury, and transiting Saturn (6) was aspecting natal Sun-Mercury.  And in the autumn of 1971, he entered his Mercury dasa - Sun bhukti period--a time when both Mercury (1,10) and the Sun (12) become extremely prominent and relevant, especially as revealed by the condition they are in natally...which, in this case, as can be seen above, is clearly not good...

Hello James and all:

Thank you for the informative post on MS.  I was not aware that Sydney Omar was diagnosed with MS. (or I forgot).

From a western Astrologer's point of view, here are some facts:

In 1971, when he was diagnosed, transiting Pluto opposed Sydney's Uranus in his 6th house.
SA Mercury, which rules the 12th of critical illness (and the brain, nervous system), was also opposing Uranus.
Transiting Uranus moved to conjunct his Moon-Venus-Node-Pluto set that year.
That's a lot of Uranus disturbance already, but guess what?
SA Uranus was also squaring his Sun.

I wonder what Sydney himself thought about all that?  Perhaps he interpreted it in a positive way, since Uranus, ruler of our nervous system, also rules astrology.

In conventional circles, I usually would reiterate as you have done that certain diseases and syndromes have genetic links, and environmental triggers…. but deep down I believe that all disease is "dis-ease" with life, and that we repeat patterns of reaction that we learn in our families.  If it is genetic, perhaps we create our cells as we live.

In Sydney Omar's chart there is a tremendous complex of being overwhelmed by "mother love".  The Venus ruling his ASC and 8th house so closely conjunct with Pluto and the Node suggests that his mother insinuated herself somehow onto his physicality and his sharing himself with others (8th), and that it might have been difficult for him to shake free of her reins.  His Uranus rules his 5th house, suggesting that his sexual apetites may have sliced right through those reins, but maybe left him feeling a little guilty and sick about it (Uranus in 6th).  It's just conjecture.
MS strikes women more than men.  I've personally known 2 women who were struck down with it, and both of them were cowed and intimidated by their husbands who promptly left them when they were no longer healthy enough to "put out".  I do believe that MS is associated with not accepting independent status in life (Uranus), at least not until it is a little late and the disease already has its powerful grips around one, which at that point becomes excessively difficult to manage.

Anyway, that's my take.  Easy for me to say, since I am presently healthy.  Hopefully we all can look at our psychological development when we come up against something other than a cold or the flu.

barbara - thanks for sharing your views on this topic from a different astro view and etc... i enjoyed reading what you had to say and thought it was bang on.. about the only thing i would add is how i see the sun as a symbol for health in general.. the connection with sun/mercury to uranus is noticeable given the 135 aspect... the sa angles for 1971 at 18 fixed tie in as well as they hit the sun/neptune midpoint directly giving another direct association via solar arcs to 1971 and the diagnosis of ms..

Hi Barbara, thx for the extra transit and SA delineations!  I'm not so sure your "conjecture" is not right on the money regarding his sexual appetite, since his Jyotish natal chart has the Moon and Venus both in Gemini.  In Jyotish, if the natal Moon and Venus are in the same sign, or opposite signs, or in square signs from each other, then James Braha has said that this "creates an extreme sexual appetite."

Yes, it certainly would have been an interesting conversation with him...

I also see that his AP natal Uranus (5) is sesquiquadrate natal Mercury, thereby bringing forward a highly wired nervous system!  As well as AP natal Uranus quindecile the Ascendant!

...a very interesting conversation, indeed!

Here is another chart of a woman diagnosed with MS.  First hospitalized with suspected MS in March of 2008.  Her MS symptons began in August 2007 with a chest infection and numbness in legs. MS diagnosis was absolutely confirmed in June 2008. A relapse has sent her back to hospital now - May 2011.

Birth data as Follows: Female born April 4 1972 11:40 PM BST in Newport, Wales. Asc 26 Scorpio 22

My thoughts is that the June 1st Gemini eclipse will likely affect her recovery efforts given her 7th house Gemini Stellia - composed of Venus, Mars, Saturn.  Both Venus R6 as well as 7, 11, CR 10 and Saturn CR 2nd oppose her Scorpio Asc. Asc R Pluto in 00Libra18 RX in 10.  Pluto Quindecile her Aries Sun and Trine Venus, Saturn.  Her planets are mostly found in 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses, the only exception Jupiter and N.Node in the 2nd.

Also here is a website link of famous people all diagnosed with MS for research purposes some of them bound to be in Astrodatabank or astrotheme sites.  http://www.mult-sclerosis.org/famous.html

Thank you for sharing, Debrah...In her Jyotish natal chart, Mercury retrograde and fallen, ruler of her 8th House, is aspected by malefic Sun and malefic Ketu (South Node).  Mars, ruler of her 1st and 6th Houses is aspected by malefic Rahu (North Node), malefic Saturn, and by the ruler of her 12th House.  And her 1st House is aspected by malefic Ketu, malefic Mars, malefic Saturn, and by the ruler of her 12th House.  Her Jyotish health chart, the D-6 Shashthamsa chart, also has these significators under pressure.

Thankfully, her debilitated Mercury--and her debilitated Moon--have their debilitation cancelled due to Neechabhanga Yoga.  Also, the Moon, ruler of the 9th, is in the 1st.  And Jupiter is in its own sign in the 2nd, therefore casting beneficial aspects on houses 2, 6, 10, and 8.

She began her 10-year Moon period in Vimsottari Dasa at the beginning of 2007...

Transiting Mars entered Aries and her 6th House just five days ago on May 3 (Lahiri ayanamsa), while transiting Jupiter entered Aries and her 6th House earlier today.  Transiting Mercury and transiting Venus enter Aries and her 6th House in three more days...here's hoping they bring much sunshine rather than more rain...

Although I have suspected it for 16 years, I was officially diagnosed as having MS in August.  Back on June 11, 1995, I got out of the shower, and my right foot was numb and tingling.  The numbness and tingling progressed up my right leg and into my right arm.  My right arm became very stiff, although not paralyzed.  Then the numbness and tingling moved into my left arm.  By this time, I was very concerned.  I asked my doctor (whose DOB I do have) if I could possibly have MS.  He told me that I was overreacting and that I shouldn't always think the worst.  Then he also told me that my symptoms did not reflect any syndrome he ever studied in medical school.

Finally, on August 15, 2011, my 61st birthday, no less, I was officially diagnosed with MS.  The astrology was pretty spectacular.   SA SA, SA ME and SA MO were all arcing to square natal PL r. 12.  SA ASC was arcing to oppose natal PL.  The most relevant operative transit was tr NE conj. natal JU r. 1.

In the meantime, my son has put me into an assisted living community.

I'll post more as things progress.

Don,

So very sorry to hear of your challenging diagnosis. I am surprised at your doctor and hope you have a new one! I have those same symptoms; they suspected MS (and ruled it out).

Thanks for sharing the relevant astrology with us during your time of adjustment.

Stay strong.

Sorry to hear about this, Don.  Sounds like a major life period reflected by some major Astrology.  Your T Saturn at MC seems to also fit.

Hang in there & glad you're back posting on the Forum.

Don, I see that you added to this thread toward the end of last year.  Thank you.  I hesitate to comment on either your Western or Jyotish charts regarding this topic of MS without your permission, but perhaps you could give us an update on how you're currently coming along?!

Jim, you are welcome to comment on my Western chart.  However, I know nothing about Jyotish, so I can add nothing.  Ironically, I have always disliked India, with the exception of Indian food.  After I got into astrology, I found it fascinating that on the day I born, there was a massive earthquake in India that killed 8 million people.

In recent developments, my right leg has become much weaker, but otherwise most other things are static.

Thank you Don.  I will just point out that in your Western chart, Mars squares Venus-Vertex, and Venus rules your 6th House.  Your Mercury-Saturn conjunction is quindeciled by 1st House ruler Jupiter, and Mercury-Saturn is also conjuncted by 8th House ruler Moon.  I believe all of these aspects and house rulerships are significant in regards to this topic...

Your condition is more easily explained by your Jyotish charts, but I will respect your wishes to go no further with them...

Am glad to hear that most things are currently static for you...

Jack Osbourne is another who suffers from MS...

http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Osbourne,_Jack

He was first diagnosed around 3 weeks after the birth of his daughter.

At that time he was running Rahu-Saturn-Mercury in Vimsottari Dasha.  Saturn [7,8] is his GK planet, and Mercury rules his 12th House, and they are conjoined in the 5th House of poorva punya.

Vimsottari Dasa:

 Rah MD: 2006-10-18 (12:16:26 pm) - 2024-10-17 (8:54:00 pm)

   Pratyantardasas in this AD:

   Jup: 2014-05-14 (9:28:30 am) - 2014-09-30 (4:29:02 am)

In Chara Dasha, he was running Pisces-Capricorn.  1st House Capricorn is aspected by GK Saturn (1) and by 6th lord Mercury.  Transiting Jupiter and Saturn were both aspecting his 6th House at the time of diagnosis.
